Cleaning your oven before Thanksgiving Day seems like a good thing to do, but it isn’t. Why? Because the self-cleaning oven cycle can cause your oven to reach incredibly high temperatures and cause weakened parts to break. The self-cleaning oven cycle needs these high temperatures in order to incinerate any food spills and grease inside your oven. After your oven cools down, you can easily wipe away any remaining dust from these incinerated spills.
The good news is you can still use the self-cleaning cycle on your oven for easy cleaning, just be sure to run it a few weeks before Thanksgiving Day to avoid an emergency appliance repair. Be sure to check your oven a day or two after running the cycle to make sure it works properly. Try baking something simple in it, like a cake or pizza, to make sure it is heating and cooking correctly.
